I replaced a well pump for a customer today with no water. Apparently the pump being in two pieces, and holes in the fitting, due to the high acid level might have had something to do with having no water.
If you have high acid levels it can eat through brass and copper. Have your water tested for any kind of water problems.
A water test revealed hard well water. While not technically unhealthy to drink, hard water takes a toll on soaps and detergents and often affects the ability to clean clothing, etc. effectively. We recommended a water softener to remove the majority of the minerals, reducing the negative impacts of the calcium found in hard water and providing soft water that will not contribute to soap scum and mineral stains.
This customer had water around the well in the grass. We recommended digging at the well to fix the source of the leak. When finding the problem spot, the acidic water ate through the fitting creating a hole. It was replaced with a stainless steel fitting so it will never happen again.
If your water test reveals sediment and/or bacteria in the water, we usually recommend a UV Light whole house system to sanitize the water and ensure that it is safe for the entire family to use and drink.
Thankful for the modern technology that supplies water to the home.
